Kenya: Bamburi Cement profits flat for 2016

LafargeHolcim subsidiary Bamburi Cement earned KES5.89bn (US$57.4m) in after tax profits in 2016, up just 0.3 per cent on the previous year, reports the Star newspaper. UK: Hanson to invest GBP20m in new cement mill

Hanson Cement plans to build a new finish mill at Padeswood cement plant in Flintshire, UK, that would secure around 100 jobs, reports Daily Post Wales. The company currently has four cement mills at the plant, but a scoping and screening opinion request has been submitted with Flintshire Council for the new mil project. Zimbabwe: PPC capacity utilisation “less than ideal”

The managing director of PPC Zimbabwe, Kelibone Masiyane, has admitted that his firm’s capacity utilisation is “less than ideal” due to the downturn in the country’s economy, the Chronicle writes. Mr Masiyane said that reduced economic activity had led to a drop in demand for PPC’s output but insisted that conditions would improve in the short- to medium term. In November PPC Zimbabwe expanded its capacity in the country with the opening of a new grinding plant in Harare. 

Taiwan: Hsing Ta Cement sees February revenues up 27%

Taiwan’s Hsing Ta Cement posted revenues of TWD174.57m (US$6.62m) in February, up 27.3 per cent from TWD137.18m YoY. The company reported revenues of TWD507.63m in Jan-Feb 2017, which represent an 6.6 per cent increase when compared with 2M16, when revenues reached TWD475.93m.

An application for planning permission to build a new EUR45m (US$47.5m) grinding mill in Vallejo, California, has been refused by the local government, the Irish Times reports. Egypt: Alexandria Cement reports EGP34.1m in 4Q16

Alexandria Cement posted a profit of EGP34.1m (US$1.93m) in 4Q16, a significant improvement of its business result when compared with the EGP98.5m loss posted in 4Q15. In 2016 losses fell by 76.1 per cent from EGP-214.2m in 2015 to EGP-51.12m one year later. Total sales increased 25 per cent YoY to EGP2.58bn, up from EGP2.05bn in 2015.
