India: Udaipur Cement Works starts commercial production

Udaipur Cement Works has completed its rehabilitation programme at its Udaipur cement works and started commercial production at the integrated works on 31 March 2017. The plant has commenced clinker and cement dispatches since.

Semen Indonesia appoints former intelligence chief Sutiyoso

PT Semen Indonesia has appointed former Jakarta governor and State Intelligence Agency (BIN) director, Sutiyoso, its president commissioner. Sutiyoso served as BIN chief under President Joko Widodo’s administration and previously led the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI). The appointment comes at a time of public protest against the building of the company’s new factory in Rembang, Central Java.

Taiwan: Chia Hsin Cement sees 11% revenue rise, pretax profit drop

Chia Hsin Cement Corp of Taiwan reported an 11 per cent rise in revenues to TWD3.14bn (US$103.3m) in 2016 when compared with TWD2.83bn in 2015. However, pretax profits dipped 59.4 per cent from TWD194.9m in 2015 to TWD79.2m the following year. Net profits reached TWD24.89m.

LafargeHolcim opens Construction Development Lab in Morocco

LafargeHolcim has opened a new Construction Development Lab (CDL) in the Moroccan city of Casablanca. Sika announced the opening of a new mortar cement factory in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. The new plant will also start production of concrete additives previously owned by the company in Villahermosa, Tabasco, according to a company statement. ACC Cement have announced a capital expenditure plan of INR6bn (US$92.4m) for the coming financial year, CEO and Managing Director, Neeraj Akhoury, said at the company's annual general meeting. Mr Akhoury said the outlay will be used for various projects.
