New species of snail discovered in Lafarge Malaysia limestone quarry

A new, presumed narrowly endemic species of snail has been discovered in a limestone quarry in Malaysia run by Lafarge. The new species of snail, discovered by Fendie Marzuki and Thor Seng Liew at the northern end of Gunung Kanthan, Malaysia, has been named 'Charopa lafargei', recognising that most of the hill is within a concession run by Lafarge Malaysia. Semen Indonesia recognised for renewable energy efforts

Semen Indonesia has won an award from the country's Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry in recognition of its renewable energy efforts. Namibia-based Ohorongo Cement plant plans to use blackthorn as biofuel for cement production, helping the southern Africa country's sole cement producer keep energy costs down. Semen Indonesia is to invest in a IDR638bn (US$54.4m) waste heat power generation facility in East Java as the company looks to reduce costs and move towards more environmentally-friendly energy sources.
