Kenya's cement market is now being supplied with cement from a new source as Dangote has started exports from its 2.5Mta Ethiopian plant to the east African country. Industry sources said the majority of the exports are destined for road construction projects in the north of Kenya. In the six months ended 31 March, 2016, PPC saw its group revenue dip by one per cent to ZAR4.5bn (US$294.01m). Group EBITDA was up by two per cent to ZAR1.1bn with an EBITDA margin of 25.4 per cent, mainly due to improved efficiencies and cost savings as part of the company’s Profit Improvement Programme. Amid prospects of disappointing revenue growth in the domestic market, Semen Indonesia is looking offshore to expand its sales figures. Newly appointed head of PT Semen Indonesia, Rizkan Chandra has said that he wants to raise the company’s sales outside of Indonesia from 5.2 per cent of revenue in 2015 to 10-15 per cent over the next three years. Ethiopia’s ministry of mines, petroleum and natural gas has revoked mineral exploration and production licenses of 32 companies due to lack of financial capacity and for failure to fulfill their duties, a top government official said. Due to a lack of results and financial capacity, nine of the companies returned their licenses voluntarily, Mr Gebregziabher explained. Derba Cement, a MIDROC Ethiopia subsidiary, is planning to expand its cement plant at a cost of US$300m. The expansion project is expected to take from 18 to 24 months. Derba Cements CEO, Haile Assegide, explained Derba was preparing to build a second plant in Chancho City.
