Lafarge Pakistan Cement swings to profit

Lafarge Pakistan Cement reported profit after tax of PKR498.916m (US$5.3m) in the first half of calandar year 2012 compared to losses of PKR17.539m in same period last year, boosted by a rise in domestic sales and cost optimisation. Tanga Cement profit rises 56 per cent, Tanzania

Tanzania-based Tanga Cement, part of the Holcim Group, has posted a  56 per cent YoY rise in net profit to TZS15bn (US$9.5m) due to increased exports and stable electricity supplies. Vietnam is estimated to have produced 36.9Mt of cement in the first eight months of this year, a fall of 5.7 per cent from the same period of last year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).  Cement output in August is likely to have increased by 14.29 per cent from July to 5.5Mt, the government office said in a report released on Monday. Vietnam-based producer Thang Long Cement JSC plans to double monthly cement exports to Cambodia from its Hiep Phuoc grinding plant to 10,000 due to increased demand in the neighbouring market. Pakistan's cement manufacturers and exporters exported 545,125t of cement and earned US$46.197m in the first month of current FY12-13, ie July 2012, compared to 612,500t at US$52.064m in June 2012.
