Argentina's cement market expands 20% in January

Cement demand in Argentina increased 20.1 per cent to 895,559t in January 2021 when compared with January 2020, when demand reached 745,681t, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The requirement of the market was entirely met by domestic production, which saw a 19.2 per cent rise YoY to 903,756t in the first month of the year. In January 2020 output stood at 758,095t. However, exports declined 34.1 per cent from 12,414t in January 2020 to 8197t one year later.

Pakistan's cement dispatches rise 16% in January

Pakistan's cement factories recorded a growth of 16.3 per cent in cement dispatches during January 2021 when total cement dispatches reached at 4.73Mt against 4.07Mt in the same month of last fiscal year, says data released by All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Exports of cement from Uganda to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have increased by 27,000t in the last two years, according to Israel Tinkasimire, Hima Cement’s commercial director. Cement consumption in Spanish has declined by 9.7 per cent to 13.288Mt in 2020, according to the country’s cement association, Oficemen. Vietnam exported over 3.6Mt of cement and clinker worth US$135m in December 2020, up 15.3 per cent MoM in volume and 10.8 per cent YoY in value, according to the General Department of Customs. Domestic dispatches in Peru increased 12 per cent YoY from 0.979Mt in December 2019 to 1.098Mt in December 2020, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement production advanced 18 per cent YoY in December 2020 as Asocem members produced 1.077Mt of cement. Output in December 2019 was 0.916Mt. Cement exports from Pakistan saw an 8.6 per cent YoY decline to US$19.253m in December when compared with US$21 in December 2019, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics attributed this drop to the closure of ports, lower trade activity on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and lower demand from international buyers as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Cement sales in Brazil totalled 4.7Mt, up 16.6 per cent YoY, according to the National Union of the Cement Industry (SNIC).
