Dalmia's Bokaro expansion project gets underway

A foundation stone for Dalmia Bharat Cement’s Bokaro expansion project in Jharkhand, India, has been laid by Hemant Soren, chief minister of the state. The project represents an investment of INR5.67bn (US$75.15m) and is expected to be completed within a year. Through debottlenecking works and the addition of the 2Mta grinding line, capacity at the plant is expected to increase from 3.7Mta to 6.2Mta. The state government provided 16 acres of land to the company for the expansion works.

Ambuja and ACC to develop new calcined clay cements

Ambuja Cements and ACC have announced a partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) to develop calcined clay cements. It will be implemented through a research project funded by the Holcim Innovation Centre in Lyon, France, and comprise of an in-depth scientific study into the influence of clinker, calcined clay and limestone on the performance of calcined clay cements. Ramco Cements commissions WHR system

India’s Ramco Cements has commissioned a new waste heat recovery system for the third line of its Jayanthipuram plant in Andhra Pradesh. Out of the two boilers in the WHR system of the third line, the air-quenched boiler at the cooler has been commissioned, according to a company release. It is expected to increase total available power from waste heat to 24MW from 21MW. The preheater boiler at the third line will be commissioned in June 2022.

Pakistan registers fall in exports during 4MFY21-22

Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) reported a 38 per cent fall in exports in terms of dollar value and a 44.2 per cent decrease in export volumes in the 4MFY21-22 when compared with the year-ago period. The cement industry earned US$65.45m of export revenue by dispatching 1.804Mt of cement and clinker overseas, compared with US$105.54m from 3.233Mt of exports in the 4MFY21-22. Nepal’s state-owned Udayapur Cement Industry is set to undergo a NPR500m (US$4.19m) modernisation plan, which will see it replace old equipment to keep up pace with the market’s newer entrants. Sagar Cements set to increase capacity to 8.25Mta

India’s Sagar Cements is reportedly increasing capacity to 8.25Mta by the end of December, according to BusinessLine. The company opened a 1Mta integrated plant in Madhya Pradesh in October, which took capacity from 5.75Mta to 6.75Mta, while the commissioning of another plant in Odisha next month should take it to 8.25Mta. Sagar Cements has invested INR6bn (US$80.72m) and INR3.05bn in the plants in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, respectively.

India’s Mangalam Cement has reported a standalone net profit of INR110.7m (US$1.49m) in the 2QFY21-22, falling 48.1 per cent YoY from INR213.3m in the year-ago period. However, net revenue advanced 17.2 per cent YoY to INR3.76bn from INR3.21bn in the 2QFY20-21.
