India: Ambuja Cements November production up 6.7 per cent at 14 lakh tonnes

Ambuja Cements today said its production for the month of November, 2007 has gone up by 6.7 per cent at 14 lakh tonnes as against 13.12 lakhs in the same month last year. Despatch has also increased by 3.81 per cent during the month to 13.6 lakh tonnes as compared to 13.1 lakh tonnes in November, 2006, the cement maker said in a release here. India’s Aditya Birla Group said on Monday its cement shipments in November fell 6.8 per cent from a year earlier to 2.30Mt. It said cement production fell 5.5 per cent to 2.34Mt. Cemex completes US$250mn divestment of US assets

Mexican cement company Cemex reported it has wrapped up the sale of its operations in the US states of Arizona and Florida to Ireland-based building materials group CRH, bringing in some US$250mn. US regulators obliged Cemex to divest the assets following its US$14bn acquisition of Australian cement company Rinker in July. The Yunnan province of China has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with France’s Lafarge and Hong Kong’s Shui On Construction and Materials Limited (SOCAM) to develop the building materials industry in Yunnan. Republic Cement Corp Monday said a consortium it formed with Lafarge Holdings (Philippines) Inc has won the bidding for certain assets and operations of Concrete Aggregates Corp’s (CA) basalt quarry in Rizal. Burnpur Cement Ltd is planning to float an initial public offer (IPO) of 2,19,00,000 equity shares of Rs10 each at a premium of Rs2 a share. The issue will open on 28 Nov 2007 and close on 3 Dec 2007. The company intends to list the shares on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange. Portuguese cement company Cimpor announced in Lisbon that it has acquired an 80 percent stake in Peruvian company Cementos Otorongo SAC for about 12.8 million Euro.
