SAIL, J.P. Associates to ally for cement plant

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has firmed up plans to form a joint venture with J.P. Associates to set up a 2Mta capacity cement plant in Bhilai. SAIL will hold 26 per cent in the proposed joint venture, which will produce cement using the slag generated in the blast furnace of Bhilai Steel Plant. Three companies have sunk US$126.7m into building a new cement plant that can produce 3,300tpd of clinker or 1.2Mt of cement a year in Nho Quan district, northern Ninh Binh Province.     Vietnam Construction Investment and Export-Import Corporation (Constrexim Holdings), the Song Gianh Construction Material Joint-stock company and ILG, an international investment company, want to create a modern plant with European standards and hope the Nho Quan project will be operational in 2009.

India Min: Govt keeping a close watch on cement prices

India’s federal government is keeping a close watch on cement prices and hopes that cement companies will "moderate" prices, the NDTV Profit news channel reported Friday, quoting finance minister P. The National Development and Reform Commission, China’s top economic planning agency, has outlined plans for different provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities to eliminate outmoded cement production facilities, sources with NDRC confirmed on Thursday.
