Imported cement required to meet Indonesian National Standard

The government of Indonesia is going to apply the Indonesian National Standard to imported cement starting from April 2007. The Monopoly Control Authority (MCA) Chairman, Khalid A Mirza, has set up a four-member committee to investigate the alleged cartelisation of cement manufacturers, and other possible aspects, which led to sharp rise and fluctuations in cement prices.     This action is the follow-up of Cabinet decision asking the MCA to look into the allegations of any cartelisation. Cruz Azul opens plant in Puebla

Cruz Azul opened a new plant Friday in Puebla, following an investment of US$350m.     Guillermo Alvarez, chief executive of Cruz Azul, said the facility will have a capacity of 1Mta.   Cruz Azul operates three other cement plants in Mexico.     The country’s cement industry, which is dominated by Cemex, is expected to grow 3% this year in terms of volume, following 8% growth in 2006, according to the Mexican cement chamber Canacem.    

Mykolaivtsement increases cement output by 16.1% to 59,200t In February

The Emami Group of companies is diversifying into a new business. A Kolkata-based group with interests in personal and healthcare businesses, the group has decided to foray into the cement segment. Oyak Group has signed a share transfer agreement with  Sabanci Holding to sell its 41.0.9% stake in the cement company Oysa Cimento. Oyak Group’s ISE-listed cement company Adana Cimento, which holds a 22.21% stake in Oysa, will receive USD 38.3mn. Cement market continues to post strong annual growth. Capacity should increase in the coming years after new plants start production. Syria’s market demand for cement is expected to reach 6.5Mt in 2007, according to Ahmad Ali Saleh, director general of OMRAN.
