Cementos Portland Valderrivas has invested EUR1m in a new unloader to speed up bulk discharges from ships in the port of Ipswich terminal, one of two that the group has in the United Kingdom. The mobile road shipunloader was supplied by the Dutch company Van Aalst and has the ability to discharge ships of up to 5000t at a nominal rate of 225tph. Cosmos ships 36,000t of clinker to Brazil

Cimpor-owned Cosmos Cement will be shipping 36,000t of clinker from its Spanish Toral de los Vados works to the Brazilian town of Recife. The shipment, which started loading on Monday is the first of the new Langosteira terminal.

The Spanish cement sector is facing more job cuts and possible further restructuring measures as local cement consumption continues to tumble. Spain: eight month consumption down 34.3% YoY

Spanish cement consumption for the first eight months of 2012 has declined by 34.3 per cent YoY to 9.56Mt, according to the latest data from Spanish cement association Oficemen. In August alone, demand was down 33.6 per cent YoY to 1.13Mt. Exports, on the other hand, increased by 48.9 per cent compared to the same month of 2011. Cementos Blancos leases Azuara plant to Cemex, Spain

Spanish cement producer Cementos Blancos de Aragon (CBA) has signed an agreement to lease its plant in Azuara to Cemex, according to local press reports. Through the move, CBA aims to repay EUR30m syndicated loan to a pool of banks including La Caixa Banco Popular and Banco Sabadell. Iberian impairments push Cimpor into a loss

Cimpor’s first half turnover declined by 5.5 per cent to €1086.8m, as the deterioration in Spain, Portugal and China could not be compensated for by improvements elsewhere. EBITDA was down by 15.3 per cent to €267.4m. Barcelona cement and clinker exports rise

Cement and clinker exports from the Port of Barcelona have increased by 435 per cent during the first half of this year from a low base. A total of 684,255t of volumes were exported in the six months to June compared to 127,891t in 2011.  The main export destinations Algeria, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Togo, Uruguay, Brazil, Guinea, UK and Puerto Rico. Spanish cement producer Cementos Portland Valderrivas reported a loss of EUR48.6m for the first half of 2012, versus a loss of EUR5m from a year earlier. Spanish cement producer Cementos Portland Valderrivas is to cut 250 jobs throughout its Spanish operations after the summer and will temporarily halt production of plants in the Catalonia region. New order for Cemengal in East Africa

EPC contractor Cemengal of Spain has been awarded a new contract for its Plug & Grind® ball mill technology by a customer in East Africa. The Plug & Grind is set to be operational by spring 2013. Cemengal said the new unit will “allow our Client to penetrate into the market rapidly, while minimising cement production and distribution costs.” Among the benefits of the Plug and Grind system are its quick erection time, flexibility and reduced operational costs, Cemengal said in a statement.
