Lehigh Hanson partners with Fortera to reduce carbon emissions

North America's Lehigh Hanson (HeidelbergCement) and Fortera Inc have announced a collaboration project to reduce emissions from Portland cement production. The two companies will work together to construct and operate a small commercial plant at Lehigh's cement facility in northern California. US cement market sees slight expansion in 2020

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico increased 13 per cent YoY to 7.5Mt in December 2020, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The PCA's Market Intelligence Group announced its February outlook on the economy and cement consumption in the US. It stated that COVID-19 is expected to remain an elevated drag on the economic recovery as consumer spending is cautious and accounts for two-thirds of every US dollar generated in US GDP. PCA releases winter US regional cement consumption forecasts

The PCA Market Intelligence Group has released its cement consumption and  construction spending forecasts in the USA.   Northeast The Northeast has been hit hard by COVID-19, leading to cement consumption declining by a projected 0.6 per cent in 2020 and PCA Market Intelligence projects further decline in 2021 by nearly one per cent. Summit Materials announces 13% increase in revenue

USA-based Summit Materials has reported a 13 per cent YoY increase in net revenue for the final quarter of 2020 to US$571.9m, compared to US$506.3m in the 4Q19. Net income remained fairly consistent YoY at US$35.2m from US$35.7m. Adjusted EBITDA increased 7.8 per cent YoY in the 4Q20 to US$130.6m against US$121.1m in the year-ago period. Cemex  S AB de CV reports that in the 4Q20 EBITDA grew by double-digit growth YoY. Consolidated net sales increased by nine per cent to US$3.537bn, an increase of one per cent for the full year of 2020 when compared with 2019.
