International Cement Review caught up with Benjamin Sporton, CEO of the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA), at the organisation’s first AGM and Symposium in London, UK, to find out how the job has been going in his first few weeks since joining from the World Coal Association.
ICR: Moving to cement from the coal industry, are there many similarities between the challenges facing the coal and cement sectors?
Benjamin Sporton: For all industries sustainability in total is a challenge, and I think it is obvious from the perspective of where we are heading globally – sustainability is a big challenge.
