Kiln Torque

A torque is  a measure of the tendecy of a force to rotate an abject about an axis.

If force is a push or pull action ,torque is similar force that tends to bring a twist .

 Kiln torque is produced by the main drive .Torque control in kiln can be achieved by controlling the motor parameters.

Thank you very much mr. Kesav for your answer but i would like to know the relation between kiln torque and kiln operation ! How kiln operation can effect on kiln torque?

The kiln torque is created by gravity acting on the material bed in the kiln. As the kiln rotates, the material bed is not aligned vertically with the kiln axis and this creates a torque that opposes kiln rotation.

 Thus, the intensity of the torque reflects the material bed angle inside the kiln. This angle is itself dependant on the stickyness of the material, hence on the amount of liquid phase in the burning zone.

The torque trend is therefore a useful indicator to control the burning zone. Torque is slowly rising=burning zone is heating up. Torque is decreasing = burning zone is cooling down (assuming the amount of material inside the kiln remains more or less constant)

Note that the absolute value of torque is of little use. It is influenced by the amount of material in the kiln, which may increase if there are coating rings. Uneven coating will also cause the torque to oscillate with kiln rotation.

SUDDEN variations of torque indicates sudden events like coating fall, coating ring break, or meal flushing and often need a prompt reaction from operator (reduction of kiln speed and feed)
