The Earthen School Tipu Sultan Merkez in a small village near Lahore, Pakistan, has won the Holcim Award Gold which comes with a cash prize of US$100,000.

The school building, designed by architect Mr Eike Roswag of German-based Ziegert Roswag Seiler Architekten Ingenieure, was built with the locally-manufactured cob (clay, sand, water, and straw) and bamboo. It provides seven classrooms for underprivileged girls.

The awards are initiated by Holcim Foundation which is supported by Holcim Ltd and its Group companies in more than 70 countries.
