Québec cement companies to burn used tyre stockpile
The government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, aims to reduce a huge stockpile of used tyres from a storage site in Placentia.
Ross Wiseman, Environment Minister, says the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board, which oversees environmental initiatives, will ship the tyres to two of Québec’s cement manufacturers to be burned as fuel. Wiseman says the board will soon put out tenders for someone to transport the 2m tyres to the factories over a two-year period.
In addition, tyres that are collected on an annual basis in Newfoundland will now be sent to Québec.
