The law firms made famous in the 2000 film "Erin Brockovich" have filed a complaint seeking damages against TXI Riverside Cement Co for negligence, intentionally inflicting emotional distress as well as wrongful death.
The Los Angeles-based law firms of Girardi & Keese as well as Masry & Vititoe filed the complaint on behalf of several Rubidoux residents last week with Riverside Superior Court.
The firms did not set an amount for damages but asked that the amount be determined at trial.
In April, TXI was found responsible for elevated levels of hexavalent chromium in the air.
The news came after a five-month investigation by the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
The investigation showed that just north of TXI, in Rubidoux, airborne levels of hexavalent chromium, or chrome 6, were 10 times higher than the average level in Southern California.
