Argentina’s cement sales increased 12.8 per cent year-on-year in February 2005, to 514,759t, according to data of the local association of Portland cement producers, released on March 8, 2005. Cement sales in Argentina registered a 5.9 per cent month-on-month decrease in February 2005.
The supplies to the domestic market, including imports, stood at 508,745t, a 4.9 per cent month-on-month decrease and a 13.9 per cent year-on-year increase. Analysts maintain forecast for a 9.0 per cent year-on-year rise in cement sales to 6.7Mt for 2005.
Cement sales reflect the construction activity in Argentina, a key sector for the economy. Argentina’s construction sector is expected to grow 12 per cent year-on-year in 2005, the president of Argentina’s Chamber of Construction, Carlos Wagner, said.
