Cement sales in Indonesia amounted to 3.842Mt in March 2025, a drop of 21.6 per cent YoY compared to the 4.903Mt reported a year earlier, according to the Asosiasi Semen Indonesia (ASI). 
 
Cement demand contracted in March 2025 with heavy rainfall causing flooding in multiple regions. All regions noted contractions in cement dispatches. Java, the country’s largest market, accounting for 51 per cent of all sales, saw dispatches shrink 22.4 per cent YoY to 1.95Mt from 2.513Mt in March 2024. Sumatera, the second largest market, which accounts for 23 per cent of sales, saw consumption slip 16.3 per cent YoY to 882,398t.
 
Elsewhere, Kalimantan reported a 36.9 per cent YoY decline to 272,847t. Sulawesi noted a 26.2 per cent YoY decline to 318,497t. Bali-Nusantara saw demand drop 14.2 per cent YoY to 254,223t and Maluku-Papua recorded a 6.8 per cent YoY fall to 163,493t.  
 
Cement production in Indonesia fell 18.7 per cent YoY to 5.147Mt, from 5.232Mt in March 2024. Clinker production increased 0.4 per cent YoY to 4.251Mt, up from 5.232Mt previously. 
 
In March 2025 cement exports rose 14.6 per cent YoY119,811t, up from 104,543t a year earlier. Meanwhile, clinker exports increased 24.9 per cent YoY to 1.186Mt, up from 948,914t. 
 
January-March 2025
Cement sales during the first quarter of 2025 contracted 7.4 per cent YoY to amount to 13.446Mt, down from 14.523Mt in the same period of 2024. Cement sales in Indonesia contracted 0.9 per cent YoY for 2024 as a whole and amounted to 64.887Mt.
 
Cement sales contracted in all regions during the first three months of 2025. Kalimantan noted the largest decline, with a 21.8 per cent YoY fall in sales. Java reported a six per cent YoY fall and Sumatera a 0.2 per cent YoY decline.
 
Bagged sales were down 4.1 per cent YoY to 9.657Mt, accounting for 60 per cent of total sales during the quarter, while bulk sales fell 15.0 per cent YoY to 3.789Mt. 
 
Cement production amounted to 14.177Mt in the first quarter, down 11.4 per cent YoY from 15.993Mt in the same period of 2024. Clinker production amounted to 13.504Mt, down 0.9 per cent YoY from 13.627Mt.
 
Cement exports amounted to 234,206t in the first quarter of 2025, down 23.7 per cent YoY, from 306,768t in the same period of 2024. Clinker exports amounted to 3.434Mt, up 12.4 per cent YoY from 3.054Mt previously.
 
Bangladesh (60 per cent) and Taiwan (12 per cent) were the main export destinations, with exports also destined for Australia, Angola, Malaysia, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste.
