Peru’s cement sales in the domestic market decreased 0.84 per cent year-on-year in January 2005, to 334,735t, Peru’s cement makers association Asocem said on February 15, 2005. However, Peru’s cement exports stood at 31,300t in January 2005. Peru’s total cements sales, including sales in the domestic market and exports, rose to 366,035t in January 2005 from 337,555t in January 2004.
The annual decrease in sales in the domestic market in January 2005 was attributed to lower sales of two of the main cement makers in Peru, compared to January 2004. Although the sales of cement maker Cementos Lima rose 6.9 per cent, the sales of Cementos Pacasmayo fell 8.6 per cent and the sales of Cemento Andino decreased 8.1 per cent.
Cement sales in February 2005 are expected to register a 4.0 per cent year-on-year increase, boosted by expected higher sales in the domestic market. Cement makers Cementos Lima, Cemento Andino, Cementos Pacasmayo, Cemento Yura, Cemento Sur and Cemento Selva operate in Peru.
