Former Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) secretary-general, Tan Sri Abdul Razak Ramli has been appointed as an independent non-executive director of Lafarge Malayan Cement Bhd.   The appointment takes effect from today, the company said in a statement here today. 

Abdul Razak had served various ministries and government agencies including the Public Services Department and Economic Planning Unit (EPU) in the Prime Minister’s Department, ASEAN Economic Cooperation Unit of MITI and MITI deputy secretary-general before he retired as the ministry’s secretary-general in October 2004.  Abdul Razak currently sits on the Board of PROTON Holdings Bhd. 

Listed on Bursa Malaysia main board, Lafarge Malayan Cement Bhd is the parent of a group of companies whose core businesses are in the manufacture and sale of cement, ready-mixed concrete and related building materials.  A member of the Lafarge Group, the company is the pioneer and leader of the Malaysian cement industry with a current annual capacity of 8Mt of clinker and 13Mt of cement.
