Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Plant and SC Uzstroymateriali have announced plans to build a new 600,000tpa cement plant in Uzbekistan. The new plant, which will also produce 100,000tpa of white cement, follows the two-fold expansion of domestic cement capacity – from 3.2Mta to 6.8Mta – over the past decade.
Other projects underway include the construction of a new dry process line at Bekabadcement, due for completion in the second half of 2012, with a clinker capacity of 0.85Mta and cement capacity of 1Mta.
Elsewhere, the construction of a new US$128mn plant in Karakalpakstan is underway, with the participation of the Uzbek-Americal Joint Venture, Rakhnamo-Nur, and is scheduled for completion in 2013.
Modernization of the production line at Ahangarancement is reportedly near completion, while the construction of a 1Mta grinding station in Yangiyul for processing clinker supplied from Bekabadcement has been completed.
