Pozzolana Ghana Lltd announces new MD

Pozzolana Ghana Limited (PGL), Ghana’s only licensed producer of pozzolana cement, today announced the appointment of Vivek Garg to the position of managing director. Garg joined PGL on 2 April but the announcement was made today by PGL President Douglas Borgsdorf.

According to Borgsdorf, “Vivek’s extensive experience in complex manufacturing environments was the key factor that made him the perfect candidate for us.”

Prior to joining PGL, Garg was chief operating officer at a manufacturing facility in Indonesia and has held several plant manager, product distribution and project management roles.

“I look forward to improving the performance of our existing facility from both a process and personnel perspective. We currently have a great operation and we are committed to continuous improvement,” said Garg. “My initial roles are to help prepare PGL for expansion through training and development of our employees, support for our local distributors and building strong relationships with Ghana’s builders.”

With a severe shortage of affordable housing facing a growing Ghana, natural and locally-produced pozzolana cement provides a superior building product at a reduced cost of construction. Pozzolana was developed and approved by the Ghana government as a new construction material, perfect for any type of building. The Ghana Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI), conducted extensive research and development activities on the production of pozzolana from clay and has exclusively licensed Pozzolana Ghana Limited to produce pozzolana for building materials. BRRI operates a plant in Kumasi that serves as a research and development facility for PGL.

PGL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun Valley, California-based PMC Global, currently operates one plant in Gamoa Mprumem, Central region but has plans to open a cement pre-mix plant and distribution depots in the near future. Borgsdorf said those plans will be made public in the coming weeks.
