Diamond Cement Ghana Ltd (DCGL) will resume production at its Aflao plant by next week following a a three week shutdown due to power shortages.
The power shortage occurred due lightening striking a transformer at the GRIDCO sub-station near Aflao during a 26 April thunderstorm. The power shortage at the cement works has resulted in a shortfall of 120,000 (2,400,000 bags) of product to the market.
Henry Ford Kamel, Volta Regional Minister said Diamond Cement would maintain its 5000tpd rate of output once production resumes. The minister commended the GRIDCO management and workers on their efforts to restore power and urged them to maintain the pace of work so that production of cement could resume early. (Source: GNA)
