The first batch of concrete from CEMEX UK has been delivered for the construction of a new UK£500m onshore gas plant in the Shetland Islands. The contract, providing over 25,000m3 over 12 months, was awarded by Morrison Construction, Galliford Try’s Scottish construction business.

The Cemex solution to providing concrete in one of the remotest parts of Britain is the erection of a mobile plant on site, modified to deal with the anticipated cold weather, and the complex logistics co-ordination of the aggregates, cement, marine and readymix divisions of CEmex UK to bring in the required raw materials by road, rail and sea at the times they are needed.

The concrete will be used in the construction of foundations, underground drainage structures, plant, buildings and hard landscaping.
