Wales’ leading annual festival is set to receive over £10,000 worth of construction material thanks to a special partnership between Lafarge’s Aberthaw Cement Works and its Ewenny stone quarry near Bridgend.

The major donation will see the global manufacturer provide stone for the construction of the main site road and access ways for The Eisteddfod Festival, the pinnacle of the Welsh cultural calendar. It is held in August over eight days and welcomes 160,000 visitors to celebrate Wales’ culture and language.

This is the latest initiative in Lafarge’s on-going commitment to supporting its local communities in Wales. Lafarge will also use the opportunity to raise awareness of the key role that construction materials play in supporting economic growth and infrastructure, by demonstrating the science behind its manufacturing processes in the Festival’s Science Pavilion.

Eisteddfod Festival chief executive Elfed Roberts said: “We are delighted that Lafarge has come on board as a major sponsor and partner.  This donation of material and the expertise Lafarge brings with it in terms of the use of the stone will make a major difference to the event, especially with our unpredictable Welsh weather!  Lafarge plays a major role in the communities and economies of South Wales and it is a pleasure to be associated with the company for the 2012 Eisteddfod.”
