Cement and clinker exports from the Port of Barcelona have increased by 435 per cent during the first half of this year from a low base.
A total of 684,255t of volumes were exported in the six months to June compared to 127,891t in 2011.
The main export destinations Algeria, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Togo, Uruguay, Brazil, Guinea, UK and Puerto Rico.
Domestic cement producers are placing a special emphasis on trying to achieve higher exports as domestic cement consumption continues to plummet.
The Port of Barcelona’s Department of Statistics expects the trend to be maintained throughout the year to reach 1Mt and achieving 400% YoY growth compared to 2011.
