Indonesian private cement producer Vanda Prima Listri announced plans to build a IDR1.4tn (US$145m) cement works in the Grobogan district of Central Jakarta.

“If realised, the cement production per year is expected to reach one million tons,” said Bambang Darusalam, a commissioner at the company. Output is earmarked to meet demand in the nearby cities in Central java.

The plan has been in the making since 1995, said the commissioner, but the global economic crisis forced it to the backburner. In addition, local concerns about the effect on water springs also prompted the company to change its plans, reducing the area of the site from 1700ha to 1000ha.
