Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction is urging cement producers to report on their export activities and cooperate fairly to prevent further losses.
According to reports by Vietnam NewsBrief service, the move follows a request by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung for the government ministries of Construction, Industry and Trade as well as the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA) to boost the value of clinker and cement exports.
Local cement producers are now being called upon to report on cement and clinker export volumes, prices (ex-work price and FOB price), list countries that are importing cementitious products from Vietnam and export duties.
Last year, Vietnam exported 7.7Mt of cement and clinker, but volumes were affected by some local firms selling their products at below floor price. The minister also asked local cement companies to cooperate with, instead of undercutting each other, to reduce their inventories through exports.
