Lafarge Pakistan Cement Ltd in collaboration with the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) hosted a Health and Safety Best Practices Training Day on 20 May 2013 for all members of the Pakistan cement industry, to promote the easy and effective integration of safety practices into daily operations.
The training day aimed to promote health and safety standards in the industry and follows an agreement signed between Lafarge Pakistan and the APCMA last month to provide trainings on Health and Safety culture.
Key topics during the training day were: Personal Protective Equipment, Energy Isolation, Working at Height, People Transport, Logistic Advisory, Ergonomics, Confined Space and Risk Management.
“Our Health and Safety System promotes a safe and healthy environment by providing a framework that describes how the organization consistently identifies and control its health and safety risks,” stated Amr Reda, CEO of Lafarge Pakistan. He said that the system reduces the potential for injuries and occupational illness, improves overall performance and through proper planning ensures continuous improvement.
“This is just one step-ahead to our commitment with APCMA and we will ensure that we extend our support to other manufacturing Industries in Pakistan,” he added.
“We would like to thank Lafarge Pakistan for carrying out an informative learning session and indeed their Best Practices and Standards break the ground of Health and Safety Training in the Cement Industry,” said Mr. Aizaz Sheikh, CEO of Kohat Cement and Chairman of APCMA. “The safety standards shared with us by Lafarge are not only useful but if followed properly can also save all kind of incidents,’’ he added.
