Cement imports into Algeria reached US$159.4m in the first five months of 2013, representing a 102 per cent rise when compared with the equivalent period of 2012, according to the National Information and Statistics Centre of the Algerian Customs.

In terms of volumes, a 105 per cent rise was noted with tonnage reaching 1.791Mt.

The rise is due to the launch of new projects and the resumption of public construction work since the start of spring.
