Birla selects Gebr Pfeiffer mill for Satna cement works
25 November 2013

India-based Birla Corporation Ltd has placed another order with Gebr Pfeiffer for an MPS 2800 BK for its cement plant in Satna.

Featuring an installed drive power of 800kW, the mill will be capable of grinding 28tph of petcoke to a product fineness of two per cent R90µm. The specific power consumption of this material, which is difficult to grind, will be about 21kWh/t. The fuel for two cement rotary kilns will be ground and dried in the mill while simultaneously being dried in an integrated, latest generation high-efficiency classifier SLS 2450 BK. Inert gases from the cement rotary kiln will be used for drying.

Gebr Pfeiffer SE will supply the core components of the mill from Europe.  The remaining components,  such as foundation parts and the housing as well as the classifier, will be delivered by Gebr Pfeiffer (India) Pvt Ltd, Noida, from India. Its engineering department will also carry out the plant layout and provide extensive engineering services including the detailed planning of the civil works.

Birla operates an identical mill at its Chittor works and there are also two in operation at Vassavadatta Cement’s Sedam I and Sedam II works, which is also part of the Birla group. Maihar Cement (Prop. Century Textiles & Inds. Ltd), headquarted in Mumbai, again a Birla Group company, also ordered this type of mill in 2008.
