The construction of Diamond Cement’s plant in Mindouli in the Republic of Congo is now around 40 per cent complete and is on-track for completion in the second quarter of 2015. The new works will have a cement production of 0.6Mta in the first stage, with the option to expand this to 1Mta.
Once completed, Congo will have three cement works, including the 0.3Mta Sonnoc-based Loutété in Bouenza and Forspak’s 0.3Mta Dolisie Niari works. At Hinda, in the department of Kouiou, a further cement facility, with 0.65Mta capacity, is currently under construction. The four works will raise Congo’s cement production to 2.25Mta. In the future, it is expected that output will reach 3.75Mta once Dangote’s 1.5Mta planned works comes online, turning the central African state from a net importer to a net exporter.
