A new US$300m cement plant will be built in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The 1Mta cement works, owned by PPC Barnet DRC, will be located near Zamba, in the Cataracts district, around 230km from the capital Kinshasha.

The construction of the plant is expected to take around 26 months to complete and will see the building of a fully-integrated works with a five-stage preheater kiln and inline calciner.

To mark the inaugural phase of the project, PPC Barnet DRC signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Sinoma International Engineering Company of China.

Commissioning of the new works is expected in the 4Q16 and output will be delivered both nationally and into neighbouring export markets.
