Raysut Cement has ordered a waste heat recovery (WHR) plant from Sonoma Overseas Development Co (SODC) for the Salalah cement plant. The announcement was made recently by Raysut Cement’s CEO, Eng Hilal al Dhamri, in Dubai, after a successful meeting with SODC.
The ground work for the project was originally marked out in 2018 when an MoU was signed to develop a 9MW facility. The plans have been resurrected to cut the plant’s reliance on grid power by 30 per cent and to reduce CO2 emissions by 50,000tpa.
Engineering and site preparations are expected to be revisited before the end of 2025. Oman is improving its sustainability commitments under Oman Vision 2049 and its net zero road map of 2050.
