On 25 August, the PCA recognised 10 cement plants with the Chairman’s Safety Performance Awards for outstanding safety records at its autumn meeting in Chicago, USA.
PCA honoured plants in three categories designated by the number of hours employees collectively worked in 2013 for achieving superior safety records. The plants were:
• Lehigh Hanson Inc, Bellingham, Washington – less than 200,500 employee hours
• Riverside Crestmore Plant, Riverside, California – less than 200,500 employee hours
• Lehigh White Cement Company, York, Pennsylvania – less than 200,500 employee hours
• GCC of America Inc., Tijeras, New Mexico – less than 200,500 employee hours
• CalPortland, Rillito, Arizona – 01,000-256,000 employee hours
• Lafarge North America, Ravena, New York – 201,000-256,000 employee hours
• Cemex USA, Brooksville South, Florida– 201,000-256,000 employee hours
• Lafarge North America, Alpena, Michigan – more than 256,000 employee hours
• Buzzi Unicem USA Inc., Greencastle, Indiana – more than 256,000 employee hours
• Cemex USA, Fairborn, Ohio – more than 256,000 employee hours.
This year, the records of 100 Portland cement plants in the United States were reviewed to determine which plants achieved the best safety records. Several of these plants had no accidents in 2013, and all the plants excelled in preventing accidents.
