Polish cement producers sold nearly 2.7Mt of cement in the first quarter of this year, up 3.4 per cent YoY, with further growth anticipated in 2015 and beyond.
"We expect that in 2015 we will record an increase in cement sales YoY," Jan Deja, director of Polish cement association Stowarzyszenie Producentów Cementu (SPC) told PAP Market Insider. "We expect a 5-6 per cent growth and a result at the level of some 16Mt.
"By 2018, I believe the economic situation will allow us to record cement sales at the level of 18-19Mt," he added.
The more positive outlook is primarily driven by increased investment in the housebuilding, rail, road and energy sectors. The housebuilding revival is likely the most important factor in the short term, while civil engineering demand is boosted by the availability of EU finance.
In 2014, domestic cement consumption rose by six per cent to over 15Mt.
