Ghana cement producers' association formed

Local cement producers in Ghana have come together to form a new association to protect and accelerate the development of the domestic industry, and promote the interests of its members through collaborative efforts.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) dated 12 May 2015 named the founding companies of the Ghana Cement Manufacturers Association (GCMA) as GHACEM Ltd, Diamond Cement Ghana Ltd and Savannah Diamond Company Ltd.

Dr George Dawson-Ahmoah, Strategy & Corporate Affairs Director of GHACEM, has been named chairman of an interim executive body comprising two representatives from GHACEM and one each from Diamond and Savannah cement companies: Venkatesh, finance director of Diamond Cement (Vice Chair/Secretary), Dominik Michel, finance director of GHACEM (member) and BVK Raju, general manager of Savannah Diamond (member).

The new umbrella body willl liaise with the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) to "promote, lobby, advocate and support matters affecting the cement manufacturing industry in the country."

Patrons of the association include Morten Gade, managing director of GHACEM and Manubhai J Patel, chairman of Diamond Cement Group.
