Rwanda prime minister Anastase Murekez on Tuesday inaugurated Cimerwa’s new dry-process line which boosts capacity at the plant from 0.1Mta to 0.6Mta.
The Rwanda cement producer, in which PPC owns a 51 per cent stake, has invested US$170m to convert its wet-process plant to new dry-process technology.
Speaking during the launch, Murekezi said that the new plant presents an opportunity for the country to start exporting cement to its neighbours while creating employment opportunities for Rwandans.
Earlier this year, Cimerwa unveiled a new corporate identity involving a new logo and corporate colours, as well as eye-catching product packaging.
A full report on Cimerwa’s modernisation and expansion drive will feature in the forthcoming September 2015 issue of International Cement Review.
