JSW Group announced that it will be setting up a 2.4Mta grinding plant at Salboni in West Midnapore district, West Bengal, India.
A 10Mt steel plant was originally planned for the site, but the company has not proceeded with the project thus far due to coal and iron linkages and problems with the land lease. However, chairman Sajjan Jindal explained to local press that JSW wants to have some activity at Salboni while the steel project is delayed.
The foundation stone ceremony is being planned for January 2016 in the presence of the West Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee. A source for raw materials for the grinding unit has already been finalised.
