Cemex has introduced its inclusive social and business programme portfolio in the Dominican Republic in order to improve access to housing, employment, construction and assisted self-construction activities, among other initiatives.
Global inclusive business manager Dulce Alejandre Mora stated that Cemex's Patrimonio Hoy scheme provides affordable and comprehensive solutions for the construction and improvement of housing for low-income families by offering an interest-free savings and loans system for the purchase of building materials. Some 662 people are involved in the programme in 2015, while there were 739 affiliates in 2014.
Another programme is Programa Integral de Autoconstruccion Asistida (PIAC), an assisted self-construction initiative involving collaboration between the public and private sectors in order to increase access to housing. Additionally, its ConstruApoyo programme involves the provision of construction materials under a joint investment model. Cemex has two divisions for these operations in the country, located in Santo Domingo Oeste and San Pedro de Macoris. These units have assisted 2,268 people in 228 between 2009 and 2015.
