Jaime Ruiz de Haro, president and CEO of Cemex Spain SLU Operations, has been elected president of Oficemen, the Spanish cement producers’ association, to replace Isidoro Miranda, CEO of LafargeHolcim in Spain. From his new responsibility, Mr Ruiz de Haro takes up the challenge to develop and implement initiatives to revive the Spanish cement sector, "an industry of great importance for the economic recovery," he stressed in his first statement after the appointment.

Among the sector's priorities is "promoting constructive solutions for a cost-efficient, more infrastructure to improve the lives of citizens without incurring an increase in public spending in the medium and long term," explained Mr Ruiz de Haro. He also stressed the commitment of the cement industry to the concept of the circular economy and added that "another priority sector is to enhance the recovery of waste as fuel."

Jaime Ruiz de Haro was born in Barcelona, he has a degree in Economics from the University of Barcelona and has spent his entire career in Cemex, in different positions. In Spain he was CEO of Cemex Canary Islands from 1999 to 2001. Subsequently, he worked in the Asian region where he promoted several projects of corporate social responsibility, first as head of operations in Thailand and the Philippines, and later as president Cemex Asia. Since 2011 he has held his current position as president of Cemex in Spain.

The Oficemen Board also approved the appointment of four vice presidents: LafargeHolcim CEO in Spain, Isidoro Miranda; CEO of Votorantim Cimentos in Spain, Jorge Wagner; Business Director for Spain and the United Kingdom of Cementos Portland Valderrivas,   Francisco Zunzunegui, and COO of Cementos Molins, Salvador Fernández Capo.
