National cement production in the Dominican Republic reached 5.18Mt, an increase of 3.2 per cent YoY, according to official statistics. This represents 75 per cent of the country’s installed production capacity of 6.91Mt.

Meanwhile, the domestic market expanded by 6.2 per cent when compared with 2014. A total of 3.97Mt of cement was sold on the back of a construction sector that showed 18.2 per cent YoY growth. Cement association Adocem reported a 5.6 per cent fall in total sales to RDD15.234bn (US$333.3m) in 2015. The price of cement continued to decrease and has fallen by 30 per cent in the past four years. In the 4Q15, prices saw a 13.8 per cent reduction.

Around 23 per cent or 1.21Mt of the country’s cement output was delivered to overseas markets.
