The commissioning of the new 1Mta Huaxin Gayur-Sughd Cement plant took place on 23 March 2016 in northern Tajikistan. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the country’s President Emomali Rahmon.
The plant was built by the Tajik Ghayur-Sughd Cement Co in partnership with the Chinese Huaxin Gayur Cement company. Construction of the plant started in 2014 on a 48ha site and represents a total investment of TJS1bn (US$127m). A 25MW hydroelectric power plant was also built to provide a stable electricity supply.
The plant is expected to bring more than TJS145m to the state coffers. The increased supply is expected to help lower prices in the Sughd region by 35 per cent.
