Cementos Argos completed the shipment of 1.1Mt of cement in May to the Panama Canal expansion project. Around 760,000t of Type II cement and 340,000t of pozzolan-based product were delivered.

The Latin American cement major worked over a year in the development of a product that met the specific technical characteristics - durability, sulphate resistance and low hydration heat - required by the project. Special clinker was then produced at its Cartagena works in Colombia before further processing to cement in Panama.

To enable timely delivery of the product, Cementos Argos doubled its capacity by 1.2Mta.

"We are extremely pleased and proud to be part of this historical legacy that will be delivered to the world. We consider that this expansion is one of the most important infrastructure projects in Latin America, is an iconic project for Panama and for the continent, and we are honored to have been able to fulfill all delivery and quality requirements demanded for a project of such magnitude,” added Juan Esteban Calle, Cementos Argos CEO.
