Although recent weeks have seen cement prices in the port of Matadi, Democratic Republic of Congo spiral up to CDF15,000 (US$15.28)/50kg bag, they have now returned to more sustainable levels of CDF10,000-11,000.
The decrease is due to the arrival in Matadi of several cement trucks that were halted at the Angolan following the decision by Congo’s government to stop cement imports. Following protests, the Central Congo governor authorised the entry of the trucks.
Before the import stop, imported cement sold for CDF5000-6000/50kg in Matadi.
