Pakistan’s cement industry produced 35.44Mt of cement during July 2015-June 2016 compared to 32.18Mt of cement in corresponding period in the previous rolling year. This translates double-digit growth of 10.12 per cent.

According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, in June 2016 alone, the country produced 2.991Mt of cement, up by 3.67 per cent YoY.

While commenting on the progress of cement industry in Pakistan, a third quarterly report of Central Bank of Pakistan – State Bank of Pakistan says that despite a continuous decline in exports for the last two years, cement production is recording a growth. The ongoing construction activities in the private sector and increased public spending on infrastructure projects provided a much-needed boost to the domestic cement industry.

The industry also benefitted from other positive developments such as a continued decline in energy costs, decreasing selling and distribution expenditure (as these costs were 10-20 per cent higher for exports compared to domestic sales) and an easing of financial charges.

According to All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA), the country has installed capacity 43.44Mta of clinker and 45.61Mta of cement as of July 2016. The industry utilised about 85 per cent of its capacity in the FY16.
