Cemtech’s 25th Anniversary Conference was off to an excellent start on Monday, 18 September 2016 at The Westin Palace, Madrid, Spain. Following a Welcome by the conference organisers and Isidoro Miranda, vice president of Oficemen, while Oficemen also delivered the keynote presentation, outlining their expectations for the Spanish cement sector to 2030. Further, broader perspectives were delivered by HSBC Bank’s John Fraser-Andrews who gave an overview of the global cement sector while CM CIC Market Solutions Senior Analyst Jean-Christophe Lefèvre-Moulenq highlighted the continuing consolidation of the European cement industry.
The role of the cement industry in addressing climate change was the focus of LafargeHolcim Head of Sustainability and CSI Vice Chair, Bernard Mathieu’s talk. International Cement Review’s Senior Economist, Dr Hina Choksy Evans, outlined the potential global cement consumption under different scenarios.
The afternoon was given to technical presentations and provided delegates with an insight into the latest trading environment as well as help in planning a cement distribution network.
The Cemtech Conference, which includes a 25-stand exhibition where world-renowned equipment suppliers showcase their latest advances, continues until Wednesday, 21 September and concludes with a plant tour of the Morata de Tajuña cement works, owned by Spanish cement major Portland Valderrivas.
