President John Mahama inaugurated the new 1Mta Western Diamond Cement plant at Bokro on 4 November. He said the decision of Western Diamond Cement to set up an ultra-modern cement factory in the western region will attract more investors into the country.
Speaking at an inaugural ceremony of the factory in Bokro in the Ahanta west district, President Mahama said the US$50m plant is an indication of economic growth in Ghana. According to him, the plant is confirmation that Ghana is a conducive place for investors to do business.
"This US$50m project we are witnessing is a manifestation of the foreign direct investment that Ghana is experiencing economic growth," he said.
He stated that the decision to establish such a factory in Ghana is in the right direction since it will positively impact the lives of people in the Western region.
The Western Diamond Cement factory will produce both the 42.5R and 32.5R grade in line with the company’s policy to be at the forefront of manufacturing of quality cement in Ghana. Western Diamond Cement is one of three cement factories by the group with the other two being Diamond Cement Ghana Ltd (DCGL), Aflao and Savanna Diamond Cement Ltd, Biupe.
"As a government, we applaud Diamond Cement for the confidence they continue to demonstrate in Ghana. This gives strong positive signals to other investors about the conduciveness of the Ghanaian business environment for companies to invest significant amount of money into our economy. Ghana is rising," added President Mahama.
