For its new cement plant in Dunkirk, Ecocem France SAS has placed an order for a Loesche vertical roller mill (VRM), mill type LM46.2+2 CS. Ecocem currently operates the same type Loesche mill for dry-grinding of granulated blast furnace slag at its Fos-sur-Mer plant in southern France.
The LM46.2+2 CS is designed to grind cement clinker and granulated blast furnace slag at a capacity of 105tph ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS). The unit’s gearbox will have a capacity of 3.15kW. The complete mechanical equipment for the grinding plant is included in Loesche’s scope of supply. The lead time for the main components of the order is 6-13 months. The commissioning of the VRM is planned for mid-2017.
Ecocem France is the first independent producer of GGBFS in Europe. The company recycles secondary material, granulated slag, from the cast iron production process by the iron and steel industry. Ecocem’s use of secondary material significantly reduces its carbon footprint. According to the company, 1t of ground slag valued in the concrete industry avoids the emission of 900kg of CO2 and the extraction of 1.6t of clay and limestone.
